Situated in Broward County, along the southern Atlantic coast, the city of Cooper sits slightly inland from a few of the more well-known beach towns such as Hollywood, Fort Lauderdale, and Pompano Beach.
Named after Morris Cooper, who founded this community in 1959, the population of this city was 34,401 according to the 2020 census. Cooper City is regarded as a small city when compared to the rest of the Miami metropolitan area.
The site of the present-day Broward Community College and Nova Southeastern University was once the Forman Naval Air Station. Establishing this educational-complex gave a bit of hope to the residents of Cooper City who were still reeling from the 1963 recession.
Today this city is home to one middle school, one high school, and three elementary schools. It also boasts many recreational facilities, parks, and programs dedicated to all ages. The city of Cooper has maintained the long-standing reputation of being “an excellent place” to grow families.
Located close to the junction of Interstates 95 and 75, Cooper City gives visitors and residents easy access by car to South Florida’s artistic, and historical tourist destinations. Some of the main tourist attractions in this town include Cooper City Antique Mall. Situated on Griffin Road, the Antique Mall offers an excellent spot to get out of Florida’s piercing sun for a few hours. This venue is home to a range of antique, gently-used, and vintage items, with many that have truly unique Florida histories.
Another popular attraction includes Tree Tops Park which is situated in nearby Davie. Bigger than many of the parks in the area, this popular destination provides families that are outdoor recreation-minded with various activity options to choose from, including paddle-boarding, biking, and hiking. There are also fantastic views to enjoy from on top of the easy to climb 28-foot observation tower.
Tamarac has much more than just beaches (although those are incredible). Take some time to get to know this community and you will not be disappointed.
