Find And Fix Leaks Before Issues Arise

Find And Fix Leaks Before Issues Arise

Leaks come in many shapes and sizes. For example, a local homeowner could have a pipe with a pinhole inside a wall, which sprays on the drywall, runs down, and escapes onto the floor beneath the sheetrock and trim. Then again, a toilet drain inside a ceiling could be to blame for water dripping each time it’s flushed after a crack formed between the lead and brass ferrule. Or the problem might even revolve around a home’s roof.

Perhaps shingles are missing, or the gutters are stopped up. Then, when it rains, standing water accumulates on the roof, causing it to leak. The point is that leaks happen in different ways. However, regardless of what those are, it is in your best interest to find and fix issues promptly. Why? That’s a good question and one that will be answered in the following sections. Hence, stay put and read on to learn more.

Water Damage Caused By Hidden Leaks

One of the best reasons to find and fix leaks early is to prevent water damage. When liquid is allowed to do as it pleases, it can ruin building materials. For example, if water escapes through the tile work around a tub, getting under the wood floors in the closet behind it, those boards could buckle and become trip hazards. Not only that, but they won’t look very visually appealing either.

Or what if the water lands on a drywall ceiling, causing it to become extremely soggy and heavy? In the blink of an eye, the sheetrock could come crashing down, making a giant mess. And whatever is underneath, is going to get wet from the water sitting above. That means electronics, furniture, paintings, etc., might get ruined. Then, you’ll be paying to fix or replace them.

Mold And Mildew Grow From Undetected Leaks

It is best not to leave leaks as-is for too long. When moisture and humidity are part of the equation, mold and mildew can begin to grow. That probably doesn’t sound like a very big deal to everyone. However, it can be, especially for people with allergies. Research shows those are the main health issues that molds trigger. Symptoms vary, but individuals with such allergies often experience:

  • Coughing
  • Stuffy nose
  • Wheezing
  • Skin rash
  • Sore Throat

Obviously, those signs barely begin to scratch the surface. So, don’t be surprised if red, itchy eyes or something else develops if you have an allergic reaction to mold. But you can ensure that doesn’t happen. When a leak occurs, find it quickly, but that alone isn’t enough. It will also need to be repaired fast to keep water damage and molds/mildews at bay.
