The city of Deerfield Beach is located in Broward County, just to the south section of the Palm Beach County line. Named after a large population of deer that used to roam the area, the last recorded population of this city was 86,859 according to the 2020 Census.
The history of Deerfield beach dates to 1890 when a settlement known as Hillsborough underwent development along the Hillsboro River. By 1898, the population had grown to 20 people, and this was when the town adopted the name Deerfield.
In the earlier part of the 20th century, the population of this town started to grow and the Florida East Coast Railroad constructed tracks so the route to Miami bisected Deerfield. The early settlers to this area were mainly farmers that grew tomatoes, pineapples, squash, green beans, and sourced fish from the Intracoastal Waterway.
Deerfield was mainly an agricultural community until 1939 when the town decided to change its name to Deerfield Beach which let visitors know this area was home to a beach. In 1952, the first Deerfield Beach Pier was constructed out of wood.
Today, Deerfield Beach is known as a dynamic-coastal community, where partnerships seem to be a top-priority, from community to business to government.
For those that love the experience of South Florida’s beaches, but prefer to avoid large crowds, Deerfield Beach is home to the award-winning “Blue Wave” which earned this particular designation from the Clean Beach Council, according to the excellent quality of the water, safety services, beach conditions, habitat conservation policies, and public information.
Deerfield Beach is also home to attractive dining and shopping opportunities. Other attractions include Quiet Waters Park, a popular destination for fishing, campgrounds, a skate park, and a “cable ski” course, which is the longest in the U.S. A combination of wakeboarding, skiing, and surfing, cable skiing has become incredibly popular, and it can be experienced at the 2,700-foot oval course at this park.
