The city of Miramar was originally founded by A.L. Mailman, with plans to serve as a type of “bedroom community” for nearby Fort Lauderdale and Miami. Mailman purchased a property from H. D. Perry, Sr. in 1953 where he developed the land to include 56 houses. These houses were inexpensive and made up of flat roofs and concrete. The homes sold very quickly due to the very low cost of the land and homes. On May 26, 1955, this city was incorporated. The name Miramar translates to “look at the sea” in Spanish. When Miramar was incorporated, the population of this city was under 200 people.
Today the city of Miramar is a fantastic place to take a vacation since there are many things you can see and do while you are there. Some of the popular destinations include Vizcaya Museum, Bayfront Park, and the Inter Miami CF at Inter Miami CF Stadium.
MIA Miami is regarded as the best airport if you are planning to fly into Miramar. It is one of the major airports, so it is possible to find a variety of great deals on your airfare. Miramar is only 14 miles from the airport and there are many transportation options to choose from when traveling from MIA to Miramar. Fort-Lauderdale International is also one of the other options to catch your flight to Miramar.
Since the time that this city was founded, this area is still a highly family-orientated community. The recreational staff working for the city plan year-round activities that reflect this robust family orientation, making sure there is always something for visitors and residents from senior citizens to “tiny tots”.
